While Kwame Nkrumah was in jail, CPP organized a rally in Kumasi. A member of the party adopted the name Ama Nkrumah (Ama – equivalent of Kwame), stood on the platform, slashed her face, then smearing the blood on her face, challenged the men to unite for their struggle for freedom and independence.

I wrote this poem believing it had the capacity to make visible a history I couldn’t see.
